The Official Club Visit (OCV) of the District Governor (DG) Rtn. Dr. Ulhas Kolhatkar to Rotary Club of Bombay Mulund East began with a closed door meeting with President Rtn. Mahesh Payannawar, Secretary Rtn. Dr.Vinay Kulkarni and President-Elect Rtn. Sudhir Hanmante held between 05.30 pm ad 06.30 pm.

The DG held a Club Assembly with the members of the club from 06.45 to 07.30pm. He wanted to listen to completed projects and further plans from the directors and members. The DG congratulated the club with the way accounts were kept. What he wished that for a stuture of a club like ours there is a need to increase the membership. When a Dombivli club, started in the same year as ours, can make it 100+ why not ours....a point to ponder on! DG also made it clear that we badly need to do something in the International service.

After the CA he had a brief discussion with partners-in -service, the Rotaractor Club of V.P.M. college and Senoir Citizens Club of Mulund East.

He was particularly amazed to know that our Senior Citizen Club is 2400+ strong. He however, wished that our family (of partner-in-service) be completed by adding RCC and our own InnerWheel Club. Any takers?


The regular meeting was called to order by President Rtn. Mahesh at 08.00 p.m. sharp.

Breaking away from the protocol, Rtn. Mahesh decided to induct a new member Nilesh Chowdhary at the beginning of the meeting as he (Nilesh) wanted to leave early.

Rtn. Mahesh summed up the discussuions with the DG and thanked the DG for his guidance and valuable suggestions.

AG Rtn. Pramod Pandit, who had earlier visited our club for a club assembly, praised the projects like Dhoom and Mulund-Shree which gives a lot of publicity to our club.

Area Co-ordinator Rtn. Viren introduced DG Dr. Ulhas.

DG in his address congratulated the club and said that life suggests growth and our club badly needed growth. He offerred many suggestions including one of having a luncheon meeting with respected members of the community where they can be told about Rotary. He praised the club President Mahesh about his leadership qualities and also for making a SWOT analysis of the club.

As usual DG Dr. Ulhas's speech is a something that draws people to meetings and here also he showed his prowess by mingling his sppech with many anecdotes, modern and ancient;sanskrit subhashitas and what not! We wish to give some glimpses from his address which , we hope, you will love it.






Rtn. Depak announced 20th January 2008 as the date of DHOOM 2008.

The DG officially inaugurated our star project by traditional breaking of a coconut.

Pesident Mahesh lighted the lamp and agarbatties and the project was thrown open for sponsorship.

The meeting was followed by happy hours and dinner.......

However, that was not the end of the meeting.......

....R/Anns spontaneously arranged ras-garba and members enjoyed playing it.

President Mahesh must be a relieved man today after having a satisfying OCV.

Our Asstt. Governor Shankar is away in the UK. The Asstt. Governor Rtn. Pramod Pandit from Deonar club was also out of India. Our DG was keen on conducting CA by an AG but could not do so. However, when Rtn. Pramod Pandit was back in Mumbai, our DG insisted that he should conduct the CA for our club.

Thus we had a CA for the second time. Again Rtn. Shanti did the honours of representing the club. Rtn. Shanti and the directors elaborated on the projects undertaken by the club, completed as well as those which the club intends to do.

AG Rtn. Dr. Pramod Pandit was happy with the preparedness of the club and offered his valuable suggestions. He particularly suggested to coincide few of our events with the ensuing Rotary Clubs Challenge Week (10th to 16th Dec). Area co-ordinator Rtn. Viren also attended the CA.

Debate- Is Politics inevitable in Rotary?

Rotary Club of Mulund Hills had organised a nice debate on the topic : Is Politics inevitable in Rotary?...at Kalidas on 7th October 2007..

For the sake of an argument there were two teams: Pro and anti statement. The arguers were nothing less than the PDGs from the Rotary Dist. 3140.

The two teams werw as follows:

Pro view: Ramesh Khanna (Team Leader), J.T.Vyas and Rahul Timbadia
Anti view: Jagdish Khanna (Team Leader), Suresh Rathod and Madhu Devdhar


DG Dr. Ulhas, in his implacable manner as usual, provided the perfect opening by giving a key note address.


The PDGs declared in the beginning only that they had taken a particular stand only for the sake of argument.


Argument and counter-argument, a game well played by the argumentative Indians, was worth witnessing it.

At the end, however, everybody agreed that there should not be any politics in Rotary.

Club Assembly- Preparation for OCV

OCV of our club is scheduled on 18th Oct 2007. Two weeks prior to the OCV there is a closed door meeting, Club Assembly, where the club prepares for the D-day. The club goes through various check lists to see that it is prepared to face the District Governor and this CA is conducted by the Assistant Governor assigned to the club.

As our Asstt. Governor was away in the United Kingdom, PP Rtn. Satish Khadke was requested by the District to conduct the CA of our club.

As the president Rtn. Mahesh was away PP Rtn. Shanti Malde did the honours of the President. Rtn. Shanti and the directors elaborated on the projects undertaken by the club, completed as well as those in the pipe line.

Rtn. Satish Khadke was happy with the preparedness of the club and offered his valuable suggestions.

Felicitation of teachers on account of Teacher's Day has always been a special event for Rotary Club of Bombay Mulund East. The event is a major project for our club and since last few years the event is conducted as a joint programme of Rotary Clubs of Mulund with our club as a lead club.






This year also more than 85 teachers from the schools and jr. colleges from Mulund were felicited for the excellent services rendered by them in shaping the future of children/students of Mulund.



Dr.Mrs.Dange, Retired Head of Sanskrit dept , Mumbai University and Presidential Award winner 2005, was the Chief Guest at the function.

WOMENS RIGTHS PROTECTION IN INDIAN LEGAL SYTEM

As you know that "Women Empowerment" is a district thrust area and our club decided to make a suitable beginning by inviting a Rotarian couple to talk on the related subject.

Rtn. Adv. Pradhyumna Mokashi and R/Ann Shyamala chose to speak on Protection of rights of women in India.

R/Ann Adv. Shyamala Mokashi and Rtn. Adv. Pradhyumna Mokashi spoke on various rights & recources available under Indian legal system to women.

R/Ann Shyamala spoke on the various provisions made to protect interest of women under the Hindu Law, the Hindu Succession Act, Indian Penal Code, 1860 etc.

Rtn. Pradyumna Mokashi explained the constituitional provisions as provided by articles enshrined to give equal ( and special in some cases) status to women in the Indian Constituition.

This was the first meeting in the hall / space designated especially for our club by Mulund Gymkhana.

A visit to Budapest

Rtn. Sudhir Hanmante recently went to Budapest,Hungary on a business trip and today i.e. on 30th August 2007 he delighted all of us with audio-visual presentation of his visit.

He started his exposition right from his visit to Hungarian consulate in Delhi for getting a visa. He gave us detailed tips of what should be done while visiting a country where there are very few people who understand English. He said that you have to depend more on body language; however, when it came to understanding electronics, for which he had gone, it was really difficult to depend only on body language.

Rtn. Sudhir gave a detailed historical , geographical and cultural exposition of city of Budapest. He took us on a virtual trip to Budapest by showing photographs of interesting things (places and people) of Budapest.

PP Rtn. Balwant Ranade presided over the meeting as President Mahesh was tied up at his office.

Good Health Thru Naturopathy

Dr. Chaphekar, M.D. (Mum) in Naturopathy spoke on GOOD HEALTH in this weekly meeting.

According to Dr. Chaphekar, persons who do not enjoy sound health is due to :

1. Wrong diet
   


2. No excercise
   


3. No rest
   


4. No meditaion
   

Therefore, for a good health one need to pay attention to the above four factors.

Regarding diet, he advised to have sprouted beans, lemon juice for breakfast. For lunch he advised to have chapattis ,salad/boiled veg whereas for dinner he said it was best to avoid anything white (e.g. rice,milk,curd,etc.).

He gave advised on the remaining factors also. I wish more Rotarians were present to listen to Dr. Chaphekar.

Membership & Extension

Weekly meeting dated 9th August 2007.

Our very own Rtn.Ajay Shah spoke on Membership & Extension in this weekly meeting.

As you are aware that August is a designated "Membership Development" month, this was an apt topic for the meeting.

International Travel, meeting dt. 2nd August 2007

This thursday, our speaker was Ms. Sanjyot Brahme and she spoke on International Travel. She represents "Passion Travel", where she is a partner and operates from Thane.

What started as a passion (and hence the name "Passion Travel") one and a half year ago,after seeing her parent's passports tuck away in a safe, she has office in Thane and Bangalore. She specialises in tours to the far-east viz. Singapore,Thailand & Malaysia.

She gave many tips for traveller, as to what should be looked in to while selecting the various packages from different travel agencies. She claimed that her company charges bare minimum (profit) and hence her travel packages are atleast cheaper by INR10K.

This was the third consecutive good metting where our Rotarians enjoyed the informative speech by Ms. Sanjyot.

"Stress Management" by Kailash Mantry

Kailash Mantry is a Chartered Accountant by profession but has many interests that's transcend many fields of life.Whatever walk of life you are into, the modern way or to say the "Third Wave" of technological innovation has put man in to a bind :Stress.




Stress,can be seen as anxiety,fear....


..anticipation of danger,fear that is bothering your belief system.



Kailash gave a crisp presentation on Stress and it's management




He said that stress is felt when you are not able to cope a situation/s and unable to handle the situations well.


He stressed that it is you who alone can destressed yourself.






The presentation was lively and interactive.


Rotarians and Rotary Anns enjoyed

You may be wondering what Shanti and Ajay are doing there with Mahesh!

Shanti presented budget (as treasurer) and Ajay officiating as (Joint) Secretary in absence of regular Secretary Vinay.

All said and done see how president has to do many things by himself !



Probably making sets of the club budget! By this time he knows that he will have to do many things by himself. See, smile on his face....he has accepted this truth and hence doing it all alone.

Weekly Meeting dated 12th July 2007

"Car Care"

Rakesh Fotedar and his team from M/s. Fortpoint Automobiles gave a power-point presentation of “Car Care”.
Personally, I had some pre-notion as to what they were going to speak on “General Maintenance" tips….but as the presentation went ahead we learned /learnt a lot more about car care.


Like habit of some people in switching off engine of a car….which may be dangerous in case of MPF cars….


…like breaks not being applied in case of ABS breaks if power is switched off…..


Mr. Rakesh has agreed to give a CD of the presentation to our memebrs….

But my friends, there are many tips which we can’t put it in this media….that you could have got only by attending the meeting.

We are making every efforts to let you know about our forthcoming meetings by multi-media sources….here I mean by various sources like printed monthly bulletin, emails,SMSes, and personal phone calls….

We will be posting snippets of the meetings on our site also. But believe me, fun lies in attending weekly meetings…

July 2007 The Rotarian

Dear fellow Rotarians,

It is the privilege of every incoming president of Rotary International to choose a theme for his year in office. For each president, the challenge is to find a theme that will encapsulate how he feels about Rotary, convey his message, and motivate Rotarians around the world for the year of service ahead.

Immediate past president Bill Boyd chose Lead the Way, and this was a wonderfully appropriate theme. His timely call to serve as the “heroes, not celebrities” that our communities need has inspired us all, and his leadership has given us a stronger Rotary.

For me, Rotary Shares was the natural choice as the 2007-08 theme. I have always felt that the essence of Rotary is about sharing. Every day, in every club, Rotarians share with others in too many ways to count. We share our time, we share our talents, and we share our resources. We share our kindness, and we share our love.

In Rotary, sharing doesn’t mean giving away the things you don’t need for yourself. In Rotary, sharing means giving of yourself, freely, for the good of others. It means taking the time to see what our communities need and to decide which of those needs we can meet most effectively. It means sharing what we have with those around us, as well as with those we will never have the chance to meet.

All of us came to Rotary to share what we have with others and to share our friendship and fellowship with other Rotarians. We share Rotary with others through bringing in qualified new members, and we share Rotary with the next generation by focusing on youth.
Rotarians have so much to share, and there is so much that the world needs from us. Our vocational classification system ensures that every club contains a full range of business and professional skills. Within every Rotary club, there is a world of talents, skills, and abilities. Each club has the resources to tackle nearly any obstacle – if there is the will and the commitment to do it.

This year, I will ask all of you to say yes to the challenges that being a Rotarian will bring you. Through this year’s emphases of health, literacy, water, and family of Rotary, we have an enormous range of opportunities for service. Those projects, those possibilities, those open doors all await us in the months ahead. All we need to do is say yes.

Yes, I will turn that idea into a project, and I will lead the project to completion.

Yes, I will share my skills, time, and resources with my club and with those who need my help.

Yes, I will share Rotary with others, by bringing a qualified new member into my club.
I look forward to a year in which we demonstrate that Rotary Shares, by sharing the best of ourselves with our clubs, our communities, and the world.

New Meeting Place

I have come back to this blog after more than a year. However, this time I am going to stay put....at least for a year. Hopefully, many interesting things are happening at Mulund East Rotary.

We have decided to shift meeting place from "G.V.Scheme Municipal School" to more visible "Mulund Gymkhana".

In fact we had few meetings at the proposed place which will be an air-conditioned one. Authorities at Mulund Gymkhana were kind enough to allow us to use their A.C. hall, on the first floor,till the time we re-do a room allotted to us, which is located on the second floor of the gymkhana.

Rtn. Prashant Koli spoke on Marketing of Rotary through the Internet.He explained what is the importance of having a good, content-rich website. He said," There are lot of people,may be from your area, who may not be knowing service organisation like Rotary or even if they know they do not know whom to contact.It is important to reach the world by showcasing good projects of your club.It is the projects,that are beneficial to community,society, will draw attention of general people."
